Frequently asked questions

Answers to your questions about this fare

As the fare reform is a major project, we have divided it into various phases that will be rolled out over several years. Zones C and D are the first to be implemented. Zones A and B will be deployed in 2022. The phase-by-phase implementation of the project will allow the exo and ARTM teams to:

      • Properly guide users

      • Train first-line workers to better meet user needs

      • Integrate and harmonize fares and services for Zone C and certain municipalities in Zone D

To find your zone, see the table below:

Territory Current zone New zone
Agglomeration of Montreal Zone 1 Zone A
Zone 2
Agglomeration of Longueuil and Municipality of Laval Zone 3 Zone B
Northern and southern suburbs Zone 4 Zone C
Zone 5
Zone 6
Zone 7
Outside the ARTM limit Zone 8 Zone D

For more information about the fare reform, visit the ARTM website.

Here are the main changes to keep in mind:

Harmonization of reduced, student and child fares

  • Students, children and people aged 65 and over will be able to purchase new “All Modes” fares at a reduced price.

  • The fare discount for students aged 18 and over will be harmonized to 40% across the ARTM’s territory.

  • Public transit will be free for children aged 11 and under, provided that they are accompanied by a person aged 14 and over.

New “All Modes” fares

The new “All Modes” fare allows you to access all modes of transportation available in the ARTM’s territory (bus, train, métro). Depending on your selection, it will allow you to travel:

  • Across several zones with a “multizones” fare

  • Within a single zone with a “one zone” fare

Here are two examples:

  • Example 1 – “All Modes” one zone fare: If you have a Zone B fare (agglomeration of Longueuil and City of Laval), you may use the bus, métro and commuter train in Zone B only.

  • Example 2 – “All Modes” multizones fare: If you have an “All Modes ABC” fare, you may travel in Zones A (agglomeration of Montréal), B (agglomeration of Longueuil and City of Laval) and C (North and South Shores) using the bus, métro, commuter train and, in 2022, the REM.

To learn more, visit the ARTM’s fare reform page.

Good to know:

All Modes” fares are also available for paratransit travel.

The fares involved in phase 1 of the fare reform project will be the only ones affected in July 2021. They are:

  • The new “All Modes” fares, which will be added to Zones C and D.

Phase 2 of the fare reform project will take place in July 2022. For more details, visit the ARTM’s fare reform page

Good to know:

Fares that aren’t affected by the fare reform project will be subject to the regular annual increase (annual fare indexing of approximately 2%).

To travel from one shore to another in Zone C, you must travel through the Montréal territory and Zone B. As a result, you must purchase a multizones ABC fare or another fare in the fare table in effect. Certain TRAIN fares may also meet your needs.

Need help to find the right fare? Contact one of our Customer Service agents at 1‑833-255-6396.

Good to know:

You must hold a valid fare for each zone you travel through, regardless of your destination. If you are not sure which fare you require, refer to the detailed map on the ARTM website.

Yes, you will still be able to purchase the fares that are not changing at the same place as prior to July 1, 2021.

The new “All Modes” fares will be available at metropolitan ticket offices and exo sales outlets, as well as on the OPUS website. If you purchase your fares from a fare terminal or other point of sale, you will find “All Modes” fares equivalent to what was there before.

Consult our list to find an exo sales outlet

Good to know:

Monthly fares will be available to purchase starting June 20, 2021. Single fares and 10-trip tickets will be available starting July 1, 2021.

No. Just like now, you will not be able to place all of the fares onto one OPUS card at the same time, due to system constraints.

For more details, visit the ARTM’s fare reform page.

Yes, all fares will be available at OPUS online, with the exception of the “All Modes” 10‑trip and single tickets in Zones ABC and ABCD, which are only available on an occasional card (non-rechargeable chip card).

Did you make a mistake when purchasing your transit fare? You may request an exchange or refund provided that:

Note: The ARTM’s Refund and Exchange Policy will be updated on July 1, 2021.

The new zones created by the fare reform have been established to harmonize with the major administrative sectors of Greater Montréal. Zone B represents the agglomeration of Longueuil. As the municipality of Saint-Bruno-de-Montarville is part of this agglomeration, it is located in Zone B.

Your TRAM 3 or TRAIN 3 fare will now be valid for the commuter train at Saint-Bruno station.

Yes. Mascouche train line users will maintain their discount of up to 30%. This discount will apply to the new transit fares that will come into effect in their area on July 1, 2021.

Yes. Former users of the Deux-Montagnes train line will maintain their MTLREM or TRAMREM fare. Only the annual fare indexation (increase) on July 1 will change your transit fare rate.

The municipalities of Sainte-Martine and Marieville are located outside of the ARTM’s territory. They are currently in Zone 6 which will become Zone D on July 1, 2021.

In the case of Sainte-Martine and Marieville, the transfer from TRAM 6 to the new “All Modes” fare will result in a fare increase. The transitional fare rate will increase progressively to avoid a sharp rise in price. This fare will be retained specifically for residents in these municipalities until its removal.

For more information about the fare reform, visit the ARTM website.
